Abstract
Engineering model cells of 35 Ah (nominal capacity) Ni-H-2 of individu al pressure vessel type were fabricated and their electrical propertie s were evaluated. Although measured values of cell capacity varied rem arkably depending on cell temperature and on magnitude of charging cur rent, their electrical characteristics were proved to be sufficient fo r space craft applications. Especially when the cell temperature was c ontrolled around -10 approximately 10-degrees-C, the cell performances were excellent. Furthermore, overdischarge durability of the engineer ing model cells were examined. When the cells were overdischarged at t he current of variously rated, such as, C/10, C/2, and 1C, for more th an 30 minutes after completely discharged, any damage on the cells was not detected after the tests.
