Current collector materials of the positive electrode of Li / MnO2 pri
mary batteries show great influence on the storage characteristics. Th
e corrosion resistances of various kinds of stainless steels and their
influences on the storage characteristics of the batteries were inves
tigated to find out preferred materials for the current collector. Cyc
lic voltammograms and corrosion behavior of the stainless steels in th
e cylindrical battery showed that the stainless steel containing of Mo
and less amount of Ni has higher corrosion resistance. The current co
llectors were more corrosion resistant in the electrolyte containing L
iClO4 as a supporting salt than in the electrolytes containing LiAsF6,
LiCF3SO3, and LiBF4. The corrosion resulted in the fall of the open c
ircuit voltage and enlargement of the internal impedance.
