Bis(2,3 -naphthalocyaninato)lutetium(III) and (2,3 -naphthalocyaninato
) (phthalocyaninato)lutetium(III) have been synthesized by condensatio
n, with lutetium acetate, of 2 equiv of dilithium 2,3-naphthalocyanina
te or with 1 equiv of dilithium phthalocyaninate and 1 equiv of the di
lithium 2,3-naphthalocyaninate. These compounds were characterized by
UV/visible, IR, H-1 NMR, and MS spectroscopies and electrochemical tec
hniques. The unpaired electron is delocalized over the two macrocycles
of the sandwich-type complexes. The HOMO-LUMO gap, 0.28 V, is the nar
rowest ever reported for compounds of this type.
