F. Opekar, MEASUREMENT OF ELECTRODE-POTENTIALS IN ELECTROCHEMICAL SYSTEMS WITH SOLID POLYMER ELECTROLYTES AGAINST COMMON REFERENCE ELECTRODES, Sensors and actuators. B, Chemical, 21(2), 1994, pp. 131-134
An improvement in the liquid junction between an electrochemical senso
r containing no liquid electrolyte and a classical reference electrode
of the second kind is described. A strip of Nafion membrane (salt bri
dge) is pressed at one end to the solid electrolyte of the sensor and
the other end is immersed in an electrolyte solution in an auxiliary v
essel containing the reference electrode. This experimental arrangemen
t makes it possible to measure the potential of the individual sensor
electrodes against a well-defined reference electrode.
