Abstract
The industrial use of fullerenes will require a significant up-scaling of their production. The five actually known techniques are discussed : 1. The electric are (Kratschmer-Huffman). 2. The vaporization of car bon by pulsed lasers. 3. The direct vaporization of carbon in focused sunlight. 4. The direct inductive heating of carbon. 5. Sooting hydroc arbon flames. The difficulty of up-scaling the electric are set-up bec ause of the photochemical destruction of fullerenes will be demonstrat ed. The use os sooting hydrocarbon flames for an industrial production of fullerenes is suggested.
