Abstract
5-Substituted-2-aminobenzenethiols (1a-f) react conveniently with beta -benzoylacrylic acid in acidic and with benzalacetophenone in neutral medium to give 2, 3-dihydro-1, 5-benzothiazepine (4a-f) and 2, 5-dihyd ro-1, 5-benzothiazepine (5a-f) series, respectively, in one step and i n satisfactory yields. The structural assignments based on micro analy tical data and spectroscopies, particularly, the H-1 NMR studies to ch aracterise imino, 2, 3-dihydro- and enamino, 2, 5-dihydro-structures, are discussed.
