T. Schmeller et al., BINDING OF QUINOLIZIDINE ALKALOIDS TO NICOTINIC AND MUSCARINIC ACETYLCHOLINE-RECEPTORS, Journal of natural products, 57(9), 1994, pp. 1316-1319
Fourteen quinolizidine alkaloids, isolated from Lupinus albus, L. muta
bilis, and Anagyris foetida, were analyzed for their affinity for nico
tinic and/or muscarinic acetylcholine receptors. Of the compounds test
ed, the alpha-pyridones, N-methylcytisine and cytisine, showed the hig
hest affinities at the nicotinic receptor, while several quinolizidine
alkaloid types were especially active at the muscarinic receptor.
