Contents of lipoprotein E and parameters of lipoprotein metabolism wer
e determined in serum from 78 patients with ischemic heart disease and
different variants of lipid metabolism disturbances. Twenty patients
had moderately elevated cholesterol levels (5.2 - 6.2 mmol/l) and norm
al triglycerides (2.3 mmol/l or less), and 58 patients had pronounced
hyperlipoproteinemia which in 40 patients could be classified as Fredr
ickson type 11a, in 14 - type 11b and in 4 - type IV hyperliproprotein
emia. In patients with pronounced disturbances of lipid metabolism (wi
th different types of hyperlipoproteinemias) serum apo-E levels were h
igher than in patients with moderate hypercholesterolemia. No signific
ant correlations were found between serum apoprotein E levels and cont
ents of lipids both in serum and in separate classes of lipoproteins.
