Test with graded hypercapnic hypoxia was performed in 35 patients with
ischemic heart disease and 15 healthy persons by closed circuit rebre
athing method. The state of central and cerebral hemodynamics, paramet
ers of pulmonary ventilation, blood gases and acid-based balance were
studied. Both in healthy persons and in patients with ischemic heart d
isease hypercapnic hypoxia led to increase in cardiac output while vol
ume velocity of cerebral blood flow remained unchanged in patients but
rose significantly in healthy persons. At equal contents of oxygen in
inhaled air relative lack of development of arterial hypoxemia was no
ted in patients compared to healthy persons. Course intervention by hy
percapnic hypoxia resulted in increased physical working capacity of p
atients with angina pectoris.
