Severe asphyxia in a male neonate of the 36th gestational week at deli
very by cesarian section required intubation and artificial ventilatio
n. Intubation was extremely difficult. The cause was a congenital cyst
of the larynx (by US, CT, laryngoscopy), which was completely excised
at the age of 17 days. After transient recovery tracheostomy was nece
ssary and maintained for several weeks because of intubation granuloma
and massive edema of the larynx. After closure of the tracheostoma at
the age of 11 weeks no further respiratory problems were observed.
