Va. Grinchuk et al., CHARACTERISTICS OF THE SCATTERING OF NEUT RAL ATOMS BY 2 COUNTERPROPAGATING PULSED OPTICAL-FIELDS, Kvantovaa elektronika, 21(4), 1994, pp. 314-318
The scattering of neutral sodium atoms by a strong field of two counte
rpropagating (incident on and reflected from a mirror) short laser pul
ses was used in an experimental investigation of a stimulated optical
pressure. The reasons for the anomalous frequency structure in the sca
ttering of atoms were identified. The oscillatory nature of the depend
ence of the scattering on the offset from resonance was found to be si
gnificant in strong laser radiation fields. The oscillation period dep
ended on the distance between the reflecting mirror and the atomic bea
m.
