The results are given of a numerical calculation of the parameters of
spontaneous and stimulated radiation emitted by a nanosecond microwave
discharge in nitrogen excited in the field of a cylindrical TE wave i
n a tube and in free space. An analysis is made of the self-matched dy
namics of a microwave discharge and of electronic levels of nitrogen m
olecules, which govern both the emission of radiation from a discharge
plasma and lasing. The calculated and experimental results are compar
ed.
