The results of experimental and theoretical studies on the oscillation
dynamics of CO2 laser with ethanol and methanol vapours, used as satu
rable absorbers in a cavity, are presented. A model of such a laser is
proposed taking into account two longitudinal modes at frequency scan
ning within the gain contour. A good agreement of the numerical calcul
ations and the experimentally observed transient processes is observed
including the change of the settled regular and chaotic oscillations
regimes at Q-switching of the cavity.
