Abstract
A GaAlAs single mode laser diode operated in the 0.78 mu m region has been stabilized to the spectral peak of an overtone absorption in acet ylene with a long-term frequency stability of 0.8 MHz. This represents a hundred fold improvement in the performance provided by the current and temperature control of the laser diode.
