Specific data on the epidemiology of the risks associated with travel
are increasingly available. Travel medicine emphasizes a multidiscipli
nary approach to the prevention and treatment of travelers' illnesses.
Developments in three mainstay areas of travel medicine, namely malar
ia chemoprophylaxis, traveler's diarrhea, and vaccine administration,
are reviewed. Significant new data on post-travel screening and on tra
vel-acquired helminth infection are discussed.
