The influence of cadmium on the bottle hydration of C3A at 4-degrees-C
and 25-degrees-C for 1, 8, 14, 29, 76 and 106 days was studied with d
ifferential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron mic
roscopy and by atomic absorption. Cadmium was retained in the hydratio
n products as Cd(OH)2. The presence of cadmium during hydration inhibi
ted the formation of the C3AH6 hydrated phase. The influence of cadmiu
m was more pronounced at 4-degrees-C.
