Kr. Rajagopal et Yn. Huang, FINITE CIRCUMFERENTIAL SHEARING OF NONLINEAR SOLIDS IN THE CONTEXT OFTHERMOELASTICITY, IMA journal of applied mathematics, 53(2), 1994, pp. 111-125
The authors investigate the presence of 'boundary layer' like structur
es wherein strains are confined adjacent to boundaries due to the circ
umferential shearing of nonlinear elastic materials, in the context of
finite thermoelasticity. It is found that even in the case of the cla
ssical neo-Hookean model pronounced boundary layer structures are poss
ible. For materials whose shear modulus depends on both the temperatur
e and the stretch, it is shown that the effects can either reinforce o
r mitigate each other. The problem considered here reduces to that stu
died by Tao and co-workers (1992) for the isothermal case.
