PITUITARY ABSCESSES - REPORT OF 3 CASES

Three cases of pituitary abscess are presented. In spite of improvemen ts in radiological evaluation, preoperative diagnosis of pituitary abs cess is quite difficult and definite preoperative diagnosis is rare in the literature. In our three cases, diagnosis was made postoperativel y. Pituitary abscesses are associated with high mortality and morbidit y. When first suspected, prompt antibiotic therapy should be considere d. Early operative drainage seems to be an important factor in decreas ing this high mortality and morbidity.
