The behavior of sulfur in Illinois coals during pyrolysis was evaluate
d by thermogravimetry/ Fourier transform-infrared spectroscopy (TG/FT-
IR) techniques. SO2, COS, and H2S were major gaseous sulfur-containing
products observed during coal pyrolysis The release rates of the gase
ous sulfur species showed several peaks within the temperature ranges,
which were due to the emission of different forms of sulfur in coal.
