Abstract
The aim of this first analysis Arthropod macroremains performed on the site of La Grande Pile is to reconstruct the variations of mean July temperature during the Lower and Middle Pleniglacial, a period for whi ch climatic reconstructions based on pollen data alone are not entirel y reliable, Two phases of climate improvement are recorded, the first one just after 70,000 BP (rise of temperature from 10-13 to 15-16 degr ees C), the second one just before 34,000 BP (rise of temperature from 10-13 to 14-21 degrees C). A cold maximum characterized by a temperat ure as low as 6-11 degrees C is recorded at about 30,000 BP.
