Jw. Pickering et al., CONTINUOUS MEASUREMENT OF THE HEAT-INDUCED CHANGES IN THE OPTICAL-PROPERTIES (AT 1,064-NM) OF RAT-LIVER, Lasers in surgery and medicine, 15(2), 1994, pp. 200-205
The radiative transfer optical properties (absorption coefficient, sca
ttering coefficient, and anisotropy of scattering) of slowly heated ra
t liver have been measured at 1,064 nm. Continuous measurements were m
ade using double-integrating spheres and collimated illumination of th
e sample for up to 5,000 seconds heating with equilibrium temperatures
of 48 degrees, 52 degrees, and 58 degrees C. Generally, the scatterin
g increased, and the absorption and anistropy decreased at rates depen
dent on the heating temperatures. However, there was a large variabili
ty between samples. (C) 1994 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
