The ORIS identifies the type of data required by different analytical
techniques (linear programming, simulation modeling, statistical analy
sis, etc.) to address manufacturing concerns within specific areas. Th
e ORIS methodology forces the collection of more and better quality da
ta. With the existence of an ORIS, the application of analytic decisio
n techniques can become the norm not the exception as it is now. The t
axonomy is easily understood and used and, therefore, provides ready a
ccess for all levers of management. Included is a summary of a case st
udy performed at the Ryobi Motor Products Company in Anderson, South C
arolina.
