Abstract
The structure of the hypogenous ascocarp, asci and ascospores of Terfe zia leonis (a sand truffle) are observed with light and electron micro scopes. Generic features in Terfezia structure are: smooth peridium, g leba composed of fertile nodules and dense sterile veins, eightspored asci, ascospore wall endowed with an oramentation from exosporic origi n and an endospore. Genera Terfezia and Tuber display common noticeabl e features justifying that the order Tuberales be maintained among Dis comycetes.
