H. Hon et al., PEDIATRIC ACUTE-RENAL-FAILURE - A REPORT ON I CASES SUCCESSFULLY MANAGED WITH CONTINUOUS VENOVENOUS HEMODIAFILTRATION, South African Journal of Surgery, 32(2), 1994, pp. 74-76
In critically ill patients continuous venovenous haemodiafiltration (C
VVHD) is a method of renal replacement therapy gaining popularity. The
advantage of CVVHD over intermittent haemodialysis and peritoneal dia
lysis lies in the accurate control of ultrafiltration and of solute cl
earance. Two paediatric patients with acute renal failure treated succ
essfully with CVVHD are described. The role of CVVHD in renal supporti
ve therapy in South African paediatric intensive care units is discuss
ed.
