Eight workers occupationally exposed to acetone and eight nonexposed c
ontrols were investigated on nine shift days both during work and leis
ure. The mean exposure to acetone was near 1000 ppm (2400 mg/m(3)). Ac
etone in urine was moderately correlated to acetone in the air. Rating
s on scales of well-being and acute symptoms (SPES) correlated signifi
cantly with concentrations of acetone in urine but not with concentrat
ions of acetone in the air. (C) 1994 Intox Press, Inc.
