EXOTIC BEHAVIOR OF CHEMICAL-REACTION SYSTEMS

Exotic kinetic phenomena such as concentration oscillations and oligo- oscillations, chemical chaos, multistationarity and multistability, ch emical waves and spatial structures attract significant attention beca use, beyond their intrinsic interest, they are thought to be simple mo dels of important biological processes. In the present paper these phe nomena are surveyed from both theoretical and experimental points of v iew. The survey contains both historical material and recent developme nts. It quotes about 300 references, and gives a picture of this dynam ically developing field of chemical kinetics which is fairly detailed but can still be readily assimilated.
