Abstract
From Schofield's equations, expressions for the pressure derivatives o f the elastic constants have been obtained. For isotropic substances I '(1) is shown to be zero while I'(2) has been related to C-1, the pres sure derivative of the bulk modulus. From C-1 the acoustic longitudina l and transverse Gruneisen constants have been computed and these are found to be in agreement within less than 6% of the experimental value while the thermal Gruneisen constant is found to be 25% less.
