Abstract
Chirped-pulse amplification of picosecond pulses is demonstrated in a compact Nd: glass laser system. A Nd: phosphate glass slab laser is us ed to produce terawatt pulses as a power amplifier. The detailed chara cterization of the zigzag slab amplifier is described. The laser syste m produces > 1 J, 1.0 ps pulses at a 1 Hz repetition rate.
