We report the fluorescence spectra of Sm3+ in (Li2B4O7)1-x(MoO3)x glas
ses; fine structure of the 4G5/2-6Hx/2 (x = 5, 7, 9, 11) transitions a
nd a slight increase of the oscillator strengths with x are connected
with the local crystal field and hybridization effects, while an incre
asing fluorescence quenching with x appears to be related to a proport
ional increase of the Mo2O7(2-) cluster content.
