A myasthenic-like syndrome is reported in two mongrel litter mates. Th
e condition was manifested clinically as intermittent, exercise relate
d, and progressive muscle weakness. Neurological abnormalities were re
lated to the muscle weakness. Electrophysiologically, there was a decr
ement of the muscle action potential during repetitive nerve stimulati
on. Antibodies directed against acetylcholine receptors were not demon
strable in serum. Treatment with a long-acting cholinesterase inhibito
r resulted in temporary improvement.
