Abstract
We propose a compact, highly efficient semiconductor second-harmonic ( SH) generator based on a new type of quasi-phase-matching (QPM) that i s achieved by modulating the optical nonlinearity at the period of the harmonic wavelength and by utilizing a cavity-enhanced fundamental st anding wave. The conversion efficiency of an SH generator incorporatin g GaP/AlP layers in a cavity to achieve the new QPM is shown to he con siderably higher than that of a conventional QPM device.
