Abstract
The Lower Eastside Service Center, Inc. (LESC) HIV CTRPN/Primary Care Unit has been consistent in providing HIV education, with the view tow ard getting clients to take responsibility on negotiating and insistin g upon safer sex practices. The following paper will outline issues pe rtaining to sex, sexuality, and safer sex practices. Focus will be on these issues in the context of the professional worker/client relation ship. Additionally, this information can be applied by the worker in h is/her nonwork life. LESC is one of the largest nonhospital substance abuse treatment centers in New York City. The agency's mission is to h elp individuals and families combat drug dependency and find a new beg inning. LESC provides substance abuse treatment, mental health care, a nd social services for those whose lives have been disrupted by chemic al dependency. LESC's CTRPN/Primary Care Unit provides confidential HI V counseling and testing, comprehensive medical care, and case managem ent services.
