Abstract
We study the validity of the lamellae equidistance approximation withi n smectic-A focal conics. We show the existence of a lamellae dilation sheath surrounding the singular lines cores. The dilation is estimate d using a perturbative model starting from the ideal focal-conic appro ximation. It is found to decay algebraically away from the singular li nes cores, and its energy contributes to the total energy of the focal conic.
