Bm. Mclaughlin et al., BALMER-ALPHA EMISSION IN PROTON-HYDROGEN COLLISIONS, Journal of physics. B, Atomic molecular and optical physics, 30(4), 1997, pp. 1043-1059
Cross sections for excitation and capture processes into the n = 1, 2,
and 3 states (including Balmer-alpha) and ionization have been calcul
ated at intermediate proton collision energies with atomic hydrogen. I
n addition, the alignment, A(20), and polarization fraction, Pi(E), pa
rameters have been calculated. A multi-state close-coupling approach u
sing a triple-centre basis set together with selective perturbative me
thods are used to make predictions on Balmer-alpha emission. These res
ults are compared with the available experimental data and various the
oretical investigations for fast protons colliding with atomic hydroge
n.
