Abstract
The heterobimetallic complex [WCl(SnCl3)(CO)(3)(NCMe)(2)](1) reacts wi th norbornadiene (NBD) at room temperature, liberating two acetonitril e ligands to form the seven-coordinate complex [WCl(SnCl3)(CO)(3)(eta( 4)-NBD)](2). The compound 2 is the first structurally characterized ex ample of monomeric, halocarbonyls with a tungsten-tin bond in which a diene ligand is present on tungsten. The IR, C-13 NMR spectra of 2 are also described and can be correlated with the crystallographically ob served geometry. The structure of 2 provides a good model for comparin g the trans influence of the chlorine and carbon monoxide ligands in t his molecule. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science Ltd.
