Abstract
UCl4 or ThCl4 dissolves in a solution of Me(2)NCH(2)CH(2)NMe(2) (tmed) in toluene to give green UCl4(tmed)(2) or colorless ThCl4(tmed)(2). A nion metathesis with Me(3)SiBr or Me(3)SiI gives UBr4(tmed)(x) or UI4( tmed)(x), where x lies between 1 and 2. The tmed complexes are useful synthons for other ligand complexes, as well as for (MeC(5)H(4))(3)ThC lor (MeC(5)H(4))(4)Th.
