Novel compounds, U2Nb3Ge4 and U2Ta3Ge4, have been synthesized by argon
are melting the elemental combinations. The crystal structure of U2Nb
3Ge4 (a=7.0178(6) Angstrom, b=13.473(2) Angstrom, c=7.1500(7) Angstrom
; space group, Pnma; Z = 4) has been determined from single-crystal X-
ray counter data to be isotypic with the ordered Sm5Ge4 type. U2Ta3Ge4
(a=7.015(2) Angstrom, b=13.454(3) Angstrom, c=7.139(2) Angstrom) from
X-ray powder intensity data was found to crystallize with the same at
om order as U2Nb3Ge4. U2Nb3Ge4 and U2Ta3Ge4 are ferromagnets below T-c
=130 K and 105 K respectively.
