IDENTIFICATION OF HYPOTHALAMIC TRANSCRIPTS UP-REGULATED BY ANTIDEPRESSANTS

Identification of quantitative changes in gene expression that occur i n the brain after antidepressant treatment can yield novel molecular m arkers that may be useful in the diagnosis and treatment of major depr ession. Using a modification of the differential display polymerase ch ain reaction, we describe the isolation of two transcripts that are di fferentially expressed in the brain after an 8-week course of antidepr essant administration, compared to saline-treated control animals.
