Abstract
All three lamprey species occurring in western Europe are found in the Loch Lomond area: Sea Lamprey Petromyzon marinus L., River Lamprey La mpetra fluviatilis (L.) and Brook Lamprey Lampetra planeri (Bloch). Th ere are major differences in ecology among the three species and in ea ch some features seem to be unique to the Lomond populations. Availabl e data on the ecology of the three species in the area are presented a nd existing threats reviewed. Future research and conservation require ments are outlined.
