This article examines the self-reported target techniques of 61 sexual
offenders incarcerated in a maximum custody prison. Respondents were
interviewed using a methodology employing other convicted felons as in
terviewers. The data lend support to a rational choice perspective rev
ealing predatory rapists as decision makers since they largely attack
females whom they perceive as vulnerable. In light of these findings,
research is needed curbing fallacies leading to victim vulnerability.
