The internal consistency and concurrent validity of a Hebrew version o
f Derogatis' Brief Symptom Index (BSI) were assessed in a sample of 84
0 high school students from three different towns in Israel. The resul
ts show high levels of internal consistency and good concurrent validi
ty of the Hebrew version. The type of high school and the country of o
rigin of the subjects' parents had no significant effect on BSI scores
. Differences between Israeli and US subjects are reported. BSI norms
presented in this study might be used in further studies in Israel.
