Abstract
We present results from a proof-of-concept demonstration of a heterody ne interferometric phase-modulated (HIPM) link we have previously prop osed and analyzed. The HIPM link uses a novel frequency shifter/phase modulator and a phase discriminator receiver. The experimental HIPM li nk demonstrated suppression of third-order intermodulation products (I MPs) by as much as 23 dB as compared to a conventional externally modu lated AM link, corresponding to an increase in spurious-free dynamic r ange of 7.7 dB. We compare experimental performance and theoretical pr edictions, and consider practical implementations of the link.
