The electronic state of surface of supported copper in modified copper
catalysts has been tested by the methods of LR-spectroscopy of adsorb
ed CO, X-ray diffraction analysis and electron microscopy. The modifyi
ng additions of cerium oxide stabilize the ionic state of copper, whil
e lanthanum oxide decreases the effective charge of Cu+ ions. The obse
rved effects are caused by variation in metal dispersivity in the modi
fied samples and by electron donor-acceptor interaction of the surface
atoms and ions of copper with the modifier.
