The reactions of 150 hospitalized parasuicides to computerized assessm
ent were evaluated. Most parasuicides preferred the computer interview
to an interview with a doctor (52.3% vs. 17.4%). Preference for the c
omputer was greater in patients with lower levels of self esteem and h
igher levels of suicidal ideation and hopelessness. Computerized inter
views may be a useful adjunct assessment procedure with parasuicides.
