Abstract
Phosphatidylserine administered as an aqueous dispersion to myelin-ind uced experimental allergic neuritis rats had a significant effect on d isease course. Intraperitoneal injections of 30 mg/kg were given daily beginning at the onset of disease and continued for 14 days. Clinical severity and mortality were markedly reduced by this treatment as com pared to saline controls. Improved clinical outcome was associated wit h a reduction in peripheral nerve pathology. A possible mechanism invo lving tumor necrosis factor is discussed.
