Abstract
New superparamagnetic, iron-containing materials have been synthesized from petroleum pitch and Fe2(CO)9. The materials are air-sensitive an d without protection from O2 appear to consist mostly of alpha-Fe2O3. Superparamagnetic metallic Fe dominates in a protected system. The mat erials were characterized by the Faraday magnetostatic method and Moss bauer spectroscopy. Some hypotheses relating to the genesis of the mat erials are suggested.
