Abstract
A stridulatory mechanism is recognized for the first time for the genu s Nerthra Say, located in the male genital capsule of all species stud ied. Nerthra toddi NEW SPECIES replaces Nerthra mexicana, Todd 1955 (n ec Melin, 1929). It is compared with Nerthra mexicana (Melin) (= Nerth ra usingeri Todd, NEW SYNONYMY), with which it has been confused, Nert hra martini Todd, and Nerthra stygica Say. N. martini, N. mexicana and N. toddi all occur in Mexico, but are not known to be sympatric.
