nt educational research has neglected volitional action and its role i
n enhancing self-determination. In the present paper, I will focus on
recent research on volitional action in motivational psychology and re
late it to historical concepts in german 'will-psychology' and 'will-e
ducation'. In the second part, I will discuss applied prespectives, fo
cussing on the development of competencies that facilitate conscious s
elf-regulation and that can be seen as elements of a developmentally o
riented volitional education.
