The first part of this work concerns essentially a qualitative energy
level diagram of UO2Cl2 deduced from analysis of absorption and emissi
on optical spectra recorded at low temperature. It describes the energ
y spacing of unoccupied orbitals. In the second part, the configuratio
n coordinate model is used to explain successfully the shape of broadb
and transitions which are attributed to electron transfer from the las
t occupied orbital to orbitals showing a large 6d character.
