Abstract
The thermodynamic potential describing anchoring transitions of nemati c liquid crystals on a muscovite substrate is analyzed via applied cat astrophe theory techniques. The occurrence of a tricritical point in t he equilibrium line of the phases with different molecular ordering is predicted. Fundamentally different behaviours of molecular orientatio n with the external parameters (humidity, temperature) are obtained.
